Major Event Partner
The Long Walk is pleased to announce Reconciliation Australia as Major Event Partner for The Long Walk "We Walk Together" on Saturday 28 May 2016, as part of National Reconciliation Week 2016 (27 May – 3 June).
On 21 November 2004 former Essendon legend Michael Long embarked on an historic trek, walking from his home in the suburbs of Melbourne all the way to Parliament House in Canberra. Along the way, and every year since, Michael is joined by thousands of Australians in a show of immense support for reconciliation and a just, equitable and inclusive Australia.
This year, The Long Walk will be held on Saturday 28th May at Federation Square, in the heart of Melbourne. Following a community celebration and free concert from 12 noon, thousands of Australians will join The Long Walk to the Dreamtime at the ‘G AFL match between Essendon and Richmond, at 4.30pm.
At the heart of reconciliation is the relationship between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. To achieve reconciliation, we need to develop strong relationships built on trust and respect, and that are free of racism.
As Australians, we are all here, woven into this country. And as part of our reconciliation journey, there are truths to tell, stories to celebrate, and relationships to grow.
This National Reconciliation Week, join Reconciliation Australia on The Long Walk and show your support for reconciliation in Australia. Find out more about National Reconciliation Week events near you at www.reconciliation.org.au/nrw. #NRW2016
