Celebrating NAIDOC Week

The Long Walk staff joined Aunty Di Kerr at the flag raising ceremeony at Federation Square this morning, despite the cold and wet conditions.  After a dance from the Djirri Djirri Dance Group, the crowd was welcomed by Aunty Di and Aunty Carolyn. Speakers included Victorian Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Natalie Hutchins, City of Melbourne's Councillor Watts, MC (and Victorian NAIDOC co-chair) Lidia Thorpe, Miss NAIDOC, Monica McDonald and Mr NAIDOC, Edward Bryant. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags were then raised proudly over Swanston Street.   The event was one of many during NAIDOC week The Long Walk will attend.
