A successful day!
We were delighted with the turnout for The Long Walk "We Walk Together" event on Saturday at Federation Square. After saying goodbye to the rain in the morning, a reasonably fine day ensued, with an enjoyable day being had by all who attended.
It was wonderful to see Michael Long and original walkers onstage with both the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader, as well as Governor of Victoria Linda Dessau and Senators Nova Peris and Pat Dodson.
The event would not proceed without our wonderful Major Partners, the Essendon Football Club and Reconciliation Australia. We give heartfelt thanks to the following Support Partners:
Australian Bureau of Statistics
City of Melbourne
and our venue partner Federation Square
We also thank the following stallholders who braved it out after the morning downpour to be an intregal part of our community event:
Amnesty International Australia, Babaji's Kitchen, Cathy Freeman Foundation, Cohealth, Diabetes Victoria, Goolum Goolum Aboriginal Co-Operative, Northern Support Services, Reconciliation Victoria, Relationships Australia Victoria, Robins Foods, RSL Sunshine, The Lowitja Institute, VAHS and Yarn Strong Sista
Thanks also to our talented MC, Trevor Tim, who was an enthusiatic host and kept the show lively and entertaining.
Our wonderful performers: Lawrence Austin, Kristal West, Scott Darlow and band and the energetic Indigenous Hip Hop Project.
Special guests Gavin Wanganeen, Kevin Sheedy, Grant Hansen, who along with Michael Long participated in a informative Q&A session.
And how could you not enjoy the dance off between Essendon's Skeeta, Richmond's Stripes and Sash and Quit's Deadly Dan.
A HUGE thanks to our Dreamtime Experience Walkers - we hope you enjoyed!
And to everyone who participated in The Long Walk to Dreamtime at the 'G - THANK YOU!
